Frequently Asked Questions

If you are considering seeking psychiatric services in Dallas, you may be wondering what to expect.

While some insurance companies require a referral to see a psychiatrist, you can usually schedule an appointment directly with our practice in Dallas.

First visits typically involve a thorough assessment of your mental health history, symptoms, and treatment goals. This allows us to create a treatment plan that aligns with your needs.

Yes, many psychiatrists provide therapy or work with therapists as part of your treatment plan.

Both psychiatrists and psychologists can help patients manage mental health concerns, but their education and roles differ. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication. Psychologists typically hold doctoral degrees in psychology and often focus on psychological assessment and psychotherapy. The type of professional you see will depend on your symptoms and treatment needs.

Yes. The Holiner Psychiatric Group provides psychiatric services for adolescents, adults, and seniors. Because mental health concerns can present differently throughout life, treatment is tailored to your age, symptoms, medical history, and individual circumstances.

You do not need to know exactly what type of care you need before reaching out. If changes in your mood, thoughts, behavior, sleep, or ability to manage everyday life are concerning you, scheduling an appointment can be a useful starting point. A psychiatric evaluation can help identify what may be contributing to your symptoms and which treatment options may be appropriate.

During your initial appointment, our team can answer any additional questions you may have and guide you on the next steps in your mental health journey.

Individualized Treatment Plans

We understand that every patient’s journey is unique. Our psychiatrists work with you to craft a treatment plan suitable to your needs and goals. This may involve the following treatments:

Depending on the severity of your condition, a psychiatrist may recommend a combination of treatments in Dallas to address your needs.

TMS Therapy

When depression symptoms do not improve enough with medication, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) may be another option to consider. TMS is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.

TMS does not require anesthesia, and you stay awake throughout your treatment session. Because there is no sedation involved, you can typically return to your normal activities immediately after the treatment session.

Your treatment involves a series of sessions. However, the schedule is determined by your needs and treatment protocol. Our psychiatrists can review your symptoms, medical history, and previous treatments to determine whether TMS may be an appropriate part of your treatment plan in Dallas.

SPRAVATO® Treatment

SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is a prescription nasal spray that may be an option for certain adults with treatment-resistant depression. It works differently from traditional antidepressants and must be administered in a certified healthcare setting under medical supervision.

You self-administer SPRAVATO while under the supervision of a healthcare provider. Afterward, you remain at the treatment center for at least two hours so your healthcare team can monitor you for potential side effects. You will also need to arrange transportation home and should not drive or operate machinery until the following day after a restful sleep.

If previous depression treatments in Dallas have not provided sufficient relief, our psychiatrist can evaluate whether SPRAVATO may be appropriate for you.
