What Does TMS Therapy Feel Like?
Dallas patients are often pleasantly surprised by how comfortable Apollo Advanced TMS therapy is. During treatment, you will relax in a comfortable chair while a magnetic coil is positioned against your scalp. As the treatment begins, you will hear a clicking sound and notice a gentle tapping sensation where the magnetic pulses are delivered.
Some people experience mild scalp sensitivity during their first few sessions, but this often becomes less noticeable as treatment continues. Because no anesthesia or sedation is used, you will remain awake the entire time and can return to your normal daily routine immediately after your appointment.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Your treatment plan is personalized based on your diagnosis, symptoms, and response to therapy. In many cases for Dallas patients, Apollo Advanced TMS therapy is provided five days a week over several weeks to achieve the greatest benefit. Your provider will monitor your progress throughout treatment and may adjust your plan as needed.
You could begin noticing improvements before completing your full course of therapy, while others experience gradual changes over time. Continuing treatment as recommended gives you the best opportunity to achieve meaningful improvement.
TMS Therapy vs. ECT
Although both Apollo Advanced Therapy and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) are used to treat depression in Dallas, they are very different treatments
Apollo Advanced Therapy (TMS) uses noninvasive magnetic stimulation. You are awake during treatment, there is no induced seizure, and no recovery period is required. Patients can typically resume normal activities immediately.
ECT uses electrical stimulation performed under anesthesia. You are asleep during treatment, the treatment intentionally produces a controlled seizure, and recovery time is needed after each treatment. Patients usually need someone to drive them home and recover after treatment.
These treatments are different, and there are different criteria that must be met for each. We can answer your question during your consultation and ensure you receive the care you need to address your concerns.
